Gulbarga is a great historical city of South India. From where
destiny of many dynasties from Shantavahana to Bahamani’s governed
till succession by Nizam of Hyderabad. Basavakalyan, the headquarter
of Kalyani Chalukyas was the place from where Lord Basaveshwara
started his socio-economic reforms for casteless society and
socio-economic justice as early as in the 12th century A.D.
The great
author and an eminent jurist Vigneshwara of Mitakshara school of
Hindu Law flourished in the court of Kalyani Chalukyas. Malkhed, in
Gulbarga District, in also abode and Brindavan of great Madhwa
Philosopher and theologian Shri. Jayateertha of 12 century A.D.,
popularly known as Teekacharya for his intimitable commentaries on
the work of Shri. Madhwacharya the exponent of Dwaita Philosophy.
Gulbarga is a Corporation City and Divisional Head Quarter and
situated on the main line (Central Railway) between Mumbai & Chennai,
Geologically too Gulbarga gains a prominent place in Karnataka.
Gulbarga is divinely graced by the two saints Shri.
Sharanabasaveshwar & Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz who taught humanism,
compassion, forgiveness and religious tolerance.
Recapitulating the history of the establishment of this institution,
it can be said that the establishment of Karnataka Peoples’s
Education Society (Formerly known as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak
Samiti, Gulbarga) has historical background.Shri. Mallikarjun Kharge,
President, K.P.C.C. (I), Bangalore with the help of some former
legislators and like minded person took the task of installing the
statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of our Indian
constitution, at Gulbarga and constituted a committee on 23.08.1973.
Our beloved Late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi unveiled the
statue on 05.03.1977. Our Founder Chairman Shri. Mallikarjun Kharge
turned his mind towards establishment of Educational Institutions in
educationally & economically backward Hyderabad Karnataka area, with
the meager amount contributed by the M.S.K. Mill workers, businessmen
and other well-wishers of our society, established Milind High School
in the Basawanagar, Gulbarga. But slowly and steadly our society
could run a series of educational institutions, with the support of
donors and other well-wishers of this area. This Society was
established in 1976 with a view to inculcating the noble ideas of
Lord Budha, Basava and Ambedkar and communicating their message to
the people at large.
The Society is inspired by the noble ideas of
Dr. B.R.Ambedkar. The Society’s main object is to promote education,
Arts, Science and culture, Physical and spiritual upliftment of down
trodden people. At present the society runs 36 educational
institutions at Hyderabad Karnataka area and proper Bangalore. Under
the noble guidance of our benevolent Founder Chairman Shri.
Mallikarjun Kharge the society has been doing great work in the field
of education since 1976. It has brought the bright torch of learning
to Gulbarga, erstwhile part of Nizam State. It has championed the
cause of education in general and sponsored men & women’s education
particularly by starting Milind High School in 1976 then
Priyadarshini Girls High School, Pragnya (English Medium) Nursary,
Primary & High School, Matoshri Ramabai Ambedkar Higher Primary
School & Panchasheela Higher Primary School, Dr. Ambedkar College of
Arts & Commerce, Siddharth Law College, Shri. B. Shamsunder Memorial
College of Physical Education, Smt. Pilloo Homi Irani Women’s College
of Arts & Science, Priyadarshini Girls Junior College & D.Ed.,
College at Gulbarga later separate High School, Primary School,
Junior College & Degree College at Bidar, Primary & High School at
Humnabad, High School, Junior College, C.P.Ed., College, B.Ed.,
College & B.P.Ed., College at Yeramarus, Dist: Raichur, College of
education, ‘B’ Pharma & ‘D’ Pharma College , Nalanda National
Pre-University College and Taksheela D.Ed., College at Bangalore. At
present 286 teaching staff & 158 non teaching staff members are
working under this management. The management is strictly following
the roster system in appointing the staff to the School & Colleges
and also in admissions of the students to different courses.
The educational institutions under its control are open to all
irrespective of caste & creed. The total strength of students is 7500
and above and they are getting educational benefits in different
courses from this management. Under this management one Kalyan Mantap
and one Working Women’s Hostel is also running. The educational

management. Our founder Chairman Shri. Mallikarjun Kharge turn his
mind for the welfare of the women. Hence, he decided to construct a
workingwomen hostel under the assistance of Government of India,
Ministry of Human Resource Development, and now this management is in
a position to accommodate 150 inmates. Which is most beneficial to
workingwomen in this area. We very much proud to say that it is the
only one biggest workingwomen hostel in the entire Hyderabad
Karnataka region. The Society seeks to make a significant
contribution to general education with due emphasis on spiritual,
moral and scientific values of life which form the important factors
in a progressing country like India. So, the broad principles
underlying the activities of the society is to make constant efforts
and aims at not only training the students according to progressive
academic standards but also to prepare them for role of future
leaders, loyal to the highest ideas of their profession and their
future life and work with dedication in the noble tradition envisaged
Bhagawan Budha, Basava & Ambedkar for serving their fellowmen and the
country.
